Inaugural IEPA Short Film Festival Draws Overwhelming Response
Melbourne, Australia — 4 February 2009— Three short films from the inaugural International Early Psychosis Association (IEPA) Short Film Festival will be available free on the Early Intervention in Psychiatry journal homepage on Wiley InterScience website as part of the February issue. The film festival was held at the National Gallery of Victoria, at the welcome reception for the 6th International Conference on Early Psychosis, on Sunday October 19th, 2008. Over 480 international guests were treated to a compilation of excerpts from the top 15 films – viewings included animations, testimonials, and even one featuring a Canadian dance troupe’s interpretation of early psychosis research.
Early Intervention in Psychiatry, published by Wiley-Blackwell and edited by Professor Patrick McGorry, is the premiere publication focusing on advances in early diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. The journal was present at the IEPA Short Film Festival – a camera crew worked the red carpet and interviewed some of the producers of the films and participants at the festival.
All participants emphasized the educational value of the films, highlighting their unique role in accentuating positive steps in the journey to recovery. The bi-annual conference provided an ideal opportunity to showcase the various creative multimedia produced by early psychosis services and individuals around the world to an international audience – helping not only to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, but also helped combat stigma and instil a sense of hope for those newly diagnosed.
